Okay, recently I have to say that I've become addicted to this game. It works so well on my dual core box.
The graphics are fairly good, a little choppy at times though, for instance, if you want it to work with an ATI graphics card on ubuntu, you need to disable Compiz. You can play the game at either fullscreen or in windowed mode, which means you can in some way also chat in the chatroom while playing.
The game play however compensates for the awkwardness of disabling your desktop effects. It has two options, Single Player or Multiplayer, both with a max of 10 AI players. The AI engine powering SuperTuxKart is fairly good, I mean, the cars won't just drive of a cliff — They actually give a fight, and sometimes win.
The Sound is fairly basic and can easily be disabled by the Options menu, you can even disable either the Sound Effects or the Background Music.
The Controls to the game are also very easily customizable and it comes with good common defaults. As far as responsiveness, it's pretty responsive and at times touchy, however be warned that the controls can at times lock up and loose you the race. (This is indicated by an ! near the speed dial)
If I had to rate this game, I'd rate it as one of the better games I've played on Linux.
